A Holiday Note from Michelle

The holiday season can get a little crazy. Family functions, financial expenses, sub-zero Chicago temperatures--and on top of all of that, we're expected to plot the upcoming vibes for an entire calendar year. Does that leave anyone else feeling a bit overwhelmed?

Thankfully, our yoga practice teaches us how to breathe through a flurry of activity while holding steady to an intention. And what is a New Year's resolution if not a yogic intention for the next twelve months of our lives?

I know, you're probably reading this thinking, "I can't think about New Year's yet, let me get through [insert your preferred winter holiday here] first!" But as your resident Reiki Healer with a side hustle reading Tarot, I'd like to offer you my favorite method of setting New Year intentions that also happens to include fun with divination.

Setting New Years Intentions with Divination

What You'll Need:

  • Your favorite Tarot or oracle deck

  • Sheet of paper

  • Scissors

  • Pen

  • Optional: journal or planner

Step 1
Write 12 New Year's intentions onto your sheet of paper. I find that resolutions feel the most empowering when they're a combination of to-do style tasks and fun life wishes. Instead of resolving to "lose 10 lbs" or "land a dream job," translate your big, intimidating goals into smaller, manageable actions like "take Rachel's barre-inspired Strong class" or "submit 5 job applications." Be sure to mix in some fun self-care items like "buy a new outfit" or "take a vacation somewhere warm."

Step 2
Cut your intentions into 12 strips. Make sure that each intention remains complete on its own piece of paper. Fold each paper & place them into a small container.

Step 3
Shuffle your deck and pull 12 cards, one for each month of 2026. You can choose to do this all at once or once a day for the 12 days between the winter solstice and New Year's Day. I like to have a journal or my 2026 planner nearby to jot down a few sentences about each card to reflect on throughout the year. Consider this your vibe-check for all 12 months ahead.

Step 4
On the 1st of each month, do a blind-pull from your container of resolutions. Whatever intention you pull from your container, that's your assignment for the month ahead. This way, you can tackle your resolutions one focused activity at a time, taking baby steps to a total transformation.

Here's to a happy holiday of your choosing & a magical 2026!🥂
